Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship

The programme prepares individuals to support teachers in enhancing learners’ progress, development, and engagement. Learners on this programme will gain the knowledge and skills to deliver small group and individual teaching, adapt planning under professional supervision, and promote inclusive, positive learning behaviours. They will learn to implement safeguarding policies, contribute to safe and stimulating learning environments, and work collaboratively with teachers, professionals, and families.

What's included

During your apprenticeship, you’ll develop a wide range of knowledge, skills and behaviours to help you make a real difference in the classroom. You’ll learn how to support teachers in planning and delivering exciting lessons that meet the needs and interests of every pupil.

You’ll gain confidence in helping pupils of all abilities to develop their reading, writing and numeracy skills through fun, engaging and practical activities. You’ll also learn how to encourage positive learning behaviours and create a calm, supportive classroom environment where everyone can thrive.

As part of your role, you’ll observe how pupils learn and progress, share feedback with teachers, and help to adapt activities to make sure every pupil gets the support they need. You’ll also be involved in setting up resources, preparing displays and contributing to the smooth running of the classroom day-to-day.

Safeguarding and wellbeing will be at the heart of your work. You’ll learn how to look out for pupils’ welfare, build positive relationships, and promote an inclusive, respectful atmosphere where every child feels valued.

You’ll also work closely with teachers, parents and other professionals to make sure pupils get the best possible support.

Eligibility criteria

Learners must be aged 16+, not currently undertaking another funded programme of learning, employed a minimum of 16 hours per week, currently a resident in England, a resident in the UK for the last 3 years (unless exempt) and must have the right to live and work in the UK.

Maths and English

Functional Skills are only required if the learner is under the age of 18 and their employer does not agree to the learner opting out.

Apprentices who fall within the criteria mentioned above will be required to have Level 2 English and Maths, either Functional Skills or equivalent before completing their End Point Assessment (EPA).

Progression

On completion of this apprenticeship learners can progress onto a Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant apprenticeship.
