The Highfield Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement is a quality-assured qualification designed for individuals who assess both occupational competence in the work environment and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace (for example, workshops, classrooms or training settings).

This qualification is ideal for you if you are working (or intend to work) as an assessor in a vocational or further education environment, and you need to assess:

  • Occupational competence in the workplace (e.g., observing performance, examining work products, questioning)

  • Vocational skills, knowledge and understanding outside the workplace (e.g., workshops, classroom training)

It is suited for those with responsibility for assessment in training or education settings, including assessors, training coordinators, skills coaches, or those moving into these roles.

What you'll learn

Throughout the programme you’ll develop the capacity to:

  • Understand the principles and practices of assessment – including the role of the assessor, different assessment methods, planning, involving learners and others, and good practice in assessment.
  • Assess occupational competence in the work environment – planning, conducting and evaluating assessment of performance in the workplace, and making valid, reliable, fair decisions.
  • Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in non-workplace settings – planning, conducting and evaluating assessment of learners in simulated environments, training workshops or classroom settings.

Course structure and delivery

Our delivery model blends online webinars, one-to-one support, guided learning, and portfolio development. You will be supported throughout the process by experienced tutors and assessors.
You will:

  • Attend scheduled sessions to cover theory and good practice.
  • Undertake assessment tasks and build a portfolio of evidence aligned to the three mandatory units.
  • Conduct assessments of learners in your environment (or simulated as required) and submit work for review and quality assurance.
  • Receive formative feedback and tutor guidance to ensure readiness for final assessment

Entry requirements

The minimum age requirement for this course is 19+.

Before starting the course, it is also recommend (but not mandatory) you have:

  • Experience of working with learners or in vocational training/assessment contexts.
  • Good levels of English and numeracy (to enable effective assessment, feedback and record-keeping).
  • Access to assess two or more learners for the assessment of competence.
