AKG has partnered with sustainable IT refurbishment organisation Make IT Good as part of a major technology refresh programme designed to reduce waste, support communities and create meaningful social impact through the reuse of retired laptops.
As colleagues across the business begin receiving upgraded devices through AKG’s latest laptop rollout, existing laptops will be securely collected by the IT team and diverted away from landfill through refurbishment and redistribution.
The initiative forms part of AKG’s wider commitment to sustainability, social value and responsible business practice, ensuring that technology which is no longer needed internally can continue to create value elsewhere.
The UK is currently one of the world’s largest producers of electronic waste per person, generating an estimated 1.6 million tonnes of e-waste every year. At the same time, digital exclusion continues to impact schools, charities and low-income households who struggle to access reliable and affordable technology.
By extending the lifecycle of devices through refurbishment and reuse, businesses can play an important role in reducing landfill waste, lowering carbon emissions linked to manufacturing and improving access to digital resources within local communities.
For AKG, the initiative is about more than simply recycling old laptops. It is about ensuring business decisions deliver wider social and environmental benefit.
Joanne Van, Social Impact Manager at AKG, said:
“At AKG, social value is embedded into the way we operate as a business and the decisions we make every day. This partnership is a brilliant example of how something operational can create genuine social and environmental impact. By working with Make IT Good, we are helping reduce waste while supporting schools, charities and community organisations with access to affordable technology. We are incredibly proud to be part of an initiative that creates meaningful change in such a practical way.”
Make IT Good, which specialises in sustainable IT refurbishment and circular economy solutions, described the partnership as:
“Giving tech and people a second lap.
“We’re excited to partner with AKG, ensuring their retired laptops are doing some serious good instead of heading to a landfill. By donating hardware, they’re helping to fuel a brilliant circular process – these machines are being fully refurbished and provided to schools and charities at a price they can actually afford in our current climate. Not just that, a portion of proceeds from these sales go directly to Velocity Racers, a wheelchair racing charity, helping disabled children and adults get the training and gear they need to get fit and mobile.”

The initiative is reflective of AKG’s focus towards more responsible environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices, recognising the importance of circular economy initiatives as part of our long-term sustainability strategy.
Dan Massey and the wider AKG IT team have played a key role in coordinating the rollout and ensuring devices can be safely collected, managed and repurposed through the partnership, a real credit to that team for securing this partnership.
Through initiatives like this, AKG continues to strengthen its commitment to creating lasting impact, not only through the services it delivers, but through the way it operates as a responsible, community-focused organisation.
