AKG responds to rising pressure across UK labour market

Recent labour market figures released this week have highlighted growing pressure across the UK employment landscape, with vacancies falling to around 705,000 — the lowest level in five years — while competition for available roles continues to increase.

The latest data also shows UK unemployment has risen to 5%, with youth unemployment seeing one of the sharpest increases in recent years, reflecting the growing challenges many people face when trying to enter or re-enter the workforce.

As employers respond to evolving economic conditions and recruitment patterns continue to shift, AKG believes the figures highlight the increasing importance of accessible employability support, skills development, health and behaviour change support, and strong employer engagement within local communities.

Working across communities throughout the UK, AKG delivers employability and skills support designed to help people overcome barriers to work, build confidence and access sustainable employment opportunities. The organisation works alongside employers across sectors including construction, health and social care, hospitality, retail, logistics and customer service, helping connect local talent with workforce opportunities and progression pathways.

Ayden Sims, CEO at AKG, said:

“As the labour market continues to evolve, it is increasingly important that individuals have access to practical support, meaningful opportunities and strong local networks that can help them move towards sustainable employment.

“At AKG, we see first-hand the value of community-based employability support and employer collaboration in helping people build confidence, develop skills and progress into long-term work. The most effective solutions are those that respond directly to local workforce needs while creating opportunities that are inclusive, accessible and sustainable.”

Across the UK, AKG works closely with employers and community partners to help address local recruitment challenges while supporting individuals into sustainable employment. This includes supporting employers experiencing workforce shortages by connecting them with local talent, delivering sector-based training and providing tailored employability support to help individuals move closer to work.

AKG believes collaboration between employers, employability providers and community partners will continue to play an important role in supporting resilient local economies and helping individuals navigate an increasingly competitive labour market.

Whether you are an employer looking to strengthen your workforce or an individual seeking support into employment, AKG works with communities across the UK to provide employability, skills, health and behaviour change support tailored to local needs.
